Following nationalisation, if you have an existing protection policy arranged through Bradford & Bingley then your policy is still valid. You don't need to do anything to continue to enjoy the benefit of this cover.

Mortgage Payment Protection - Financial Services Authority (FSA) Review

The FSA and mortgage payment protection industry have worked together to ensure that the terms provided to customers are fair. Following this consultation period the FSA have requested that all distributors make some of their terms clearer, specifically in relation to cancellation rights and the right to vary premiums.

Why are you changing my terms?

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) and mortgage payment protection industry have worked together to ensure that the terms provided to customers are fair. Following this consultation period the FSA have requested that all insurers make some of their terms clearer, specifically in relation to cancellation rights and the right to vary premiums.

I've heard that customers are due a refund, does that apply to me?

Refunds only apply to customers who saw an increase in premiums in 2009. Bradford & Bingley did not increase customer premiums on your mortgage payment protection policy in 2009 and therefore no refunds are due.

I didn't know I had this policy - what is it for?

The policy covers your mortgage payments if you are unable to work due to accident, sickness or unemployment.

I want to cancel my policy what do I need to do?

If you would like to cancel your policy you need to put this in writing. The address to write to is;

Are you going to increase my premiums?

We are continually monitoring the performance of our mortgage payment protection schemes, especially in light of the increase in claims over the past 18 months. If at any time in the future we need to amend customer premiums then we will give you 60 days notice of that change by writing to you.

If I cancel my policy will any of my premiums be refunded?

If you cancel your policy you will not be due any refund of premium that you have already paid.
